Blogging: The 3E (Easy, Effective and Enjoyable)

We live in an ever changing world especially as it relates to technology, day by day things are becoming more and more automated and in order to survive we are forced to become technologically incline. Technology is everywhere and daily we are bombarded with the use of technology. As a teacher, blogging is a means in which I can introduce my students to technology while enhancing teaching and learning in schools in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

One may ask the question, how can blogs be used to enhance teaching and learning in schools in St. Vincent and the Greanadines? In order to effectively answer this question, one must first know what is a blog.

Three ways in which a blog can be used to enhance teaching and leraning in schools in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are:

1. Blogging is an easy way to get all students involve in academic activities:

Blogs are usually written in fun and creative ways which encourages students to participate in online discussions. Similarly students enjoy exciting educational videos and games posted on blogs by their teachers. This captivates students interest and motivates them to visits the classroom blogs daily.

2. Blogging is an effective way to get information to students:

  • Often times, teachers are seldom able to cover content in the allotted class time due to several unavoidable interruptions such as; misbehaviour, students tardiness upon arriving to class or illnesses. In instances such as these, using classroom blogs teachers may create posts with content that students were unable to cover during instructional time. Using this same forum, teachers are able to provide direct feedback to students on unclear content or concepts.

3. Blogs are enjoyable:

A blog is an exciting way to interact with students academically outside of the classroom. It is different from the traditional chalk and talk or seat work method. Students enjoy chatting on the web with their teachers and their friends. This facilitates students social and communication skills. While the focus is on covering content in an interesting manner, students and teachers socialise in a more social forum thus maintaining professionalism.

Adam and Eve NOT STEVE!!!

The subject of 'same-sex marriage' today commands both academic and public attention on an unprecedented scale.  However, 'same-sex mariiage' by no means is a new issue, as it was first surfaced in the 1970s in America. (Andrew M Roth 1998.) What is 'same-sex marriage'? Dictionary.Com defines same-sex marriage as a legal union between a man and a man and a woman and woman. While many countries the world over have already legalised same-sex marriage, I strongly disagree with that statement that same-sex marriage should be legalised in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines(SVG). Same-sex marriage should not be legalised in SVG because it sin and it is not recognised by God or the church as marriage.

Same-Sex Marriage Should not be legalised in SVG because it is a SIN!!!

Sin is anything that humans do that is outside of the Will of God. In other words, Sin refers to the act of doing something that God specifically ask us not to do. For example God ask us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves (Mark 12:31). Therefore it is a Sin to hate thy neighbour.

In Genesis 1:27-28 God made male and female in His own image and likeness. Not only did God made male and female but God give them a very special command, God told them to be fruitful and multiply, and to replenish the earth. Now, can a man and a man be fruitful and multiply? How about a woman and a woman? This goes to show that marriage was not designed for a man and a man or a woman and a woman for that matter. Many would argue that  in many cases the union of a man and woman is unable to produce children, therefore it is no different than a man and man or a woman and a woman. The initial part of this statement is correct, in many cases the union of a man and a woman in unable to produce children. What these people will do when they try to argue this point, is to omit an all important fact, that is SIN!!! SIN has fractured mankind's relationship with God therefore we no longer live in a perfect world. Likewise when God give this command it was given before Adam and Eve SINNED!  The latter part of the statement though, is much inaccurate, a man and woman who is unable to produce children, is not the same as a man and man unable to produce children or a woman and woman unable to produce children. Two individuals of the same sex would never be able to naturally bore a child because that was never designed by God our maker and Creator.

In the book of Genesis, chapter 2:18-24 and in the book of Matthew, chapter 19:4-6 God said that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Specifically in Genesis chapter two verses 18, God said that it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make an help meet for him.  Later on in that same chapter verse 21 God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. While Adam was sleeping God took a rib from his side and made a WOMAN not a MAN!!! Further down in the chapter verse 24 God said that a man should leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife. So my question is,  If God ordained marriage  to be between a man and a woman, who are we to change it?

Finally, neither God nor the church recognise same-sex marriage as a marriage.  If the persons in the relevant authorities and those with the power to legalise same-sex marriage in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines do so, what position will they be putting the Bible Believing Churches in? These men and women are going to give the churches an ultimatum. Yes that is correct, the state will be asking the churches to choose between them and God. What kind of nation ask its people to choose between them and God? Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is going to become like those countries where Christians have to worship in secret or their lives will be threatened. You may say that is a very drastic comparison, but, is it? Is it really a drastic comparison? Think about it for a minute, let it sink in. Bible-believing churches are those churches that preach thus saith the Lord according to the bible, irrespective of prime minister, priest or pope. These churches speak out against SIN and biblical crime. Now we ALL KNOW that the Bible ordained marriage between male and female, man and woman. Now if SVG were to legalise same-sex marriages, these bible-believing churches will speak out against such indictable act. You may ask, so how would Christians have to worship in fear? I do not want to believe that you are so naive in thinking that laws would be made, bills will passed and there will not be any consequences for those caught breaking the laws. Well if you did, let me enlighten you, there will be consequences put into place to protect the laws passed and none can really tell what these consequences will entail. If we get to the point where we will legalise same-sex marriage, anything may happen. So do not be so applaud when you see what the possible consequences for anyone caught discriminating against homosexuals and same sex marriages. This link below provides you with some information about gay rights and consequences for anyone caught violating these rights.

http://iglhrc.org/sites/default/files/557-1.pdf

In the beginning, as in, in the Bible marriage had always been between a man and a woman. It had never been between two females or two males and it should remain that way. My stance therefore on same-sex marriage is quite clear, I strongly disagree with it and it should not be made legal in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I oppose that same-sex marriage be made legal in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines because it is a sin and neither God nor the Church supports it.

Mathematics The ENEMY!!!

Why are so many of our students so mathematically afraid? Why do so many of them appear so distant and so disinterested in so many aspects of classroom mathematics? Why do so many of them find it so easy to speak so vividly about so many bad experiences they claim to have encountered within the realms of school mathematics? These questions are likely to challenge educators and teachers of mathematics to reflect on a more direct and fundamental question; why have we performed so poorly at mathematizing the minds of our students?

What Is Mathematics?

Mathematics is the science that deals with the logic of shape, quantity and arrangement. Math is all around us, in everything we do. It is the building block for everything in our daily lives, including mobile devices, architecture (ancient and modern), art, money, engineering, and even sports.  (Elaine J. Hom, 2013).

Why are so many of our students so mathematically afraid?

Growing up I always hated mathematics and it was because of the emphasis placed on this subject by my teachers. I was flogged  and made to stand during instructional time for not saying my times tables correctly. Secondly as a student I was often instructed to memorise all my mathematical formulas in order to pass my math test. Finally mathematics was taught every school day and mostly in blocks , placing great emphasis on mathematics.

What Did Others Have To Say About This Also?

Why do so many of our children appear so distant and so disinterested in so many aspects of classroom mathematics? Here are some of the reasons below:

1. Many students claim that there are too many mathematics formulas to remember. This can be a contributing factor to students' lack of interest in classroom mathematics.

2. Many students claim that mathematics is too difficult and no matter how hard they try to succeed at mathematics they are always unsuccessful, therefore it does not make any sense trying.

3. Students also claim that too much pressure from teachers cause them to  be disinterested in classroom mathematics.

Why do so many of them find it so easy to speak so vividly about so many bad experiences they claim to have encountered within the realms of school mathematics?

It is quite clear that many students speak freely about the numerous math experiences they have because of two major reasons. Firstly these children have more bad experiences than good ones and secondly the experiences they encountered are long lasting. Many students speak out vividly about the experiences they have encountered within the realms of classroom mathematics in numerous ways. They do it verbally and most commonly through art and graphic designing. Take a look some at of the t work that students used to express their feelings about classroom mathematics:

We as teachers have performed so poorly at mathematizing the minds of our students and there is much work to be done both at revisiting the mathematics curriculum and the way that we as teachers teach mathematics. Here is video with more information on this.

Hice, Gold or Green

Which will it be?

What are my thoughts about the upcoming campaign and the outcome of the next election? Not speaking prophetically, I anticipate this general election will be a very close one. My reason for saying this is none other than the pictures I have seen from the recently held campaign parties. Though the size of the campaign parties are not necessarily a true reflection of the results of the election, it provides a great estimation of what the results may be.  From what I have seen so far the campaigns are getting bigger and bigger as they go from constituency to constituency.  As the various parties move from town to town, house to house, communities to communities, the intensity of campaigns grew deeper and deeper. Therefore, as the general elections in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is drawing nigh, the ultimate question is being asked. Who will win the next general elections?

Is it Hice?

Will the Unity Labour Party serve for a fourth term in this country?

Or... Is it Gold?

Is the New Democratic Party(NDP) going to take back leadership by winning the next general elections?

How about Green?

Or will the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines finally give Ivan O'Neil and the SVG Green Party a chance at government?

Who will it be? Will it be Hice, Gold or Green?

For the past fifteen years the Unity Labour Party served the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines(SVG) as Government. What has the ULP done during their fifteen years of government?

What have they done?

Schools

Houses

Police Station

Library

These are just a few things that the ULP boast about having provided for the people of SVG. Well, my question to you is this, Have the ULP provided these goods and services for the people of SVG or did they improved on what they have met before? Well the answer is quite simple...they did not provide but they have improved on what they have met before. Many may argue that the ULP went into government and they did not leave the country the way they met it; well I have news for you, it is their job and their responsibility as government to improve these goods and services.

How About Gold (NDP)?
Prior to the ULP winning the elections in the year 2001, The NDP was the ruling party in SVG for seventeen years. Under this government the people of SVG saw the implementation of low-income houses, schools, hospitals, police stations and public libraries.

What Have The NDP Done?

Contributed to Education

Library

Police Station

Like the ULP the NDP boost about providing these commodities to the people of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The question is asked my good people, what is the responsibility of any government of a country? Is is not the responsibility of any government to provide schools, hospitals, libraries and security for its people?

How about the man behind the Green? What Has He Done?
It is quite unfortunate that the SVG Green Party was never given a chance at government, as a result of that we do not know what Mr Ivan O'neil and his team can really do for our country. But....What Has he Promised?

What has he promised?

Air Conditioning Over Kingstown...No more hot sun!

Free Utility Bills

My My what great plans Mr O'neil has for this country but only if he can be given a chance at government.

Here are a few pointers that that the people of Saint Vincnet and the Grenadines should consider before they decide which party they should vote for.

Things To Consider:

  • What has each political done for the country?
  • What are the plans for the country presented by each political party?
  • What is similar about each political party?
  • What is different about each party?
  • What do I like about each party?
  • What do i like about each party?
Having answered these questions, one should compare and contrast between both political parties and examined which party may better lead the country. Among the things one should consider, there are few recommendations suggested that one must not do when making a decision as to which political they should vote.

Things One Should Not Do:

  • Vote based on tradition
  • Influence other people's choice of vote especially their children
  • Make enemies over party
  • Disregard other people's right  to differ in choice of political party
  • Criticise and ridicule others for their choice in political party

It is the right of any citizen over the age of eighteen years to vote in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. I urge all citizens who are eligible to vote to go out and do so on election day. However, whatever you do, keep the elections safe and violent free. Show respect for oneself and others. There are much to be considered before voting and please take things considerations into account before voting.
